Who selects and rates the lessons?

Professional educators have screened and reviewed each of the lesson plans that are listed on the site. Each lesson has been rated by three educators: the HealthLessons.org editor (an educator the on The New York Academy of Medicine staff) and two other teachers who are part of a national group of reviewers.

How are the lessons rated? What is assessed in rating the lessons?

3. Each lesson submitted is carefully examined by two expert reviewers. Healthlessons.org reviewers are educators each with over 15 years of classroom experience. To see all the review criteria please visit Selection of Lessons.

How often will HealthLessons.org content be updated?

Lessons are continuously added to the site. The frequency depends on the review process and the availability of online lesson plans that meet the high quality requirements of HealthLessons.org. You can suggest a lesson to be included on the site. You can also see the lessons that have been most recently added to the site. HealthLessons.org Editorial is updated every month, on the first of the month.

Why should I become a member of HealthLessons.org?

Membership allows you to review lessons, suggest a lesson for inclusion on the site, add links to online resources, create a list of favorite lessons and participate in the community discussion blog, HealthLessons.org Editorial. What happens to my personal information when I become a member?

Your personal information is stored in HealthLesson.org's secure database. System security protects the privacy of registration information and ensures the integrity of the site. Your information will never be given to other organizations.

How do I submit my reviews of lessons?

You have to be a member of HealthLesson.org in order to add lesson reviews to the site. There is a review form on each More About This Lesson page. Share your opinion, become a member and take part in the HealthLessons.org community. Sign up!

How does My Favorites work?

You have to log on as a member of HealthLessons.org to use My Favorites. Once you log in as a member you can click on "Add to My Favorites" and build your list of favorite lessons. You can view your choices and manage your selections on the My Favorites page.

The rigorous selection and evaluation process set HealthLessons.org apart from other sites. Also, all the lessons that are included in the HealthLessons database are available for free; there is no fee. No membership is required to search the site and get results.

What is the goal of the site?

The goal of HealthLessons.org is to provide teachers with free access to high quality health education lesson plans. The site brings together the best K-12 health lesson plans on the internet, drawing from more than 25 websites. The ultimate goal of HealthLessons.org is to improve health education and dissemination of health information to America's elementary, middle, and high school children.

Who funded the development of HealthLessons.org?

The HealthLessons.org project has been funded by a grant from the National Library of Medicine. The NML supports outreach initiatives to improve access to health information and eliminate health disparities.

What is The New York Academy of Medicine?

The HealthLessons.org project is an initiative of The New York Academy of Medicine, developed by the Division of Information Management and the Office of School Health Programs. The New York Academy of Medicine, founded in 1847, is an independent non-profit institution committed to enhancing the health of the public through research, education and advocacy. The Division of Information Management of the Academy is responsible for developing innovative strategies to disseminate health information to health professionals and the public. It is responsible for one of the world's premier medical libraries and has been the site of a Regional Medical Library of the National Library of Medicine for more than thirty years. The Office of School Health Programs is the focal point for the Academy's activities to improve the health and well-being of New York City children and youth and to address the evolving health education needs of schools and communities. The Office of School Health Programs provides a wide range of health education initiatives that impact New York City school administrators, teachers, staff, families, and students. The goal of these programs is to build the capacity of schools and community based organizations to enhance the health of young people and to help them develop the skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to lead and maintain healthy lives and succeed academically.
